Doctoral Student and Alumna of Maryland's iSchool Receive Awards at ALISE Conference

(College Park, MD 1/18/08) – Maryland’s iSchool would like to congratulate Ms. Miriam Matteson and Dr. Kara Anne Reuter on the awards they received at the 2008 ALISE Annual Conference in Philadelphia.
Doctoral student Miriam Matteson received the 2008 Doctoral Students to ALISE award, a grant that covers the recipient’s conference registration, lodging and meals, as well as a complimentary one year membership to ALISE. Ms. Matteson also attended a luncheon hosted by a member of the Board of the Directors.
Recent graduate, Dr. Kara Anne Reuter, received two ALISE Research Awards. For her dissertation, “Children Selecting Books in a Library: Extending Models of Information Behavior to a Recreational Setting,” Dr. Reuter won the ALISE/Eugene Garfield Doctoral Dissertation Competition. She received a $500 award, plus complimentary conference registration and a one-year membership to ALISE. In addition, Dr. Reuter was presented the ALISE/Linworth Youth Services Paper Award for her paper, “Children Selecting Books in a Library: Implications for Encouraging Effective Book Selection.” Recipients of this award must be members of the ALISE Youth Services Special Interest Group. The winning paper must, among other requirements, address how the research can apply to practice in the field.
