Cataloger
Practice Settings
Technical service departments of national libraries, academic libraries, large public libraries, large special libraries. Professional organizations concerned with bibliographic control (e.g., OCLC). Vendors. Independent contractors.
Primary Responsibilities
Perform descriptive cataloging (original and/or copy cataloging) and subject cataloging (subject headings, classification) for a variety of material types (e.g., monographs, serials, manuscripts, foreign language materials, etc). Ensure appropriate name authority control. Overall responsibility for content of catalog records (e.g., bibliographic, authority, holding). Supervise paraprofessional staff.
